Abstract: The article examines the system of education, socialization and the formation of «the English character» in the works of the classic of English literature E.M. Forster. The author concludes that the result of teaching at English schools is the education of people with “undeveloped hearts”. Moreover the world of characters with “undeveloped hearts” is closed for the world of the Other.
